Conimicut Point Sunrise

Years ago, I woke up early one winter morning, packed my gear, grabbed a cup of coffee, and drove to Conimicut Point in Warwick, Rhode Island. The air was freezing, and even a light breeze made it feel sharper. But with the right clothing, I could wander the coast for hours, capturing moments of calm.

I wore flannel-lined jeans, layers on top—a thermal shirt, hoodie, and winter jacket—plus a knit hat and photographer-friendly gloves. The gloves flip open at the fingertips, letting me adjust camera settings while keeping my hands warm. Simple preparation, but essential for enjoying long mindful walks along the shoreline.

Finding Mindfulness Through Photography

Back then, I had never heard the term mindfulness. I didn’t know I experienced anxiety. I only knew that photography made me feel good. When I put my eye to the viewfinder, the rest of the world faded away.

Work? Gone. Car troubles? Irrelevant. That meeting that didn’t go well? It never happened.

Photography became my refuge, my zen. For others, it might be model making, painting, crocheting, or woodworking—an activity so absorbing that anxiety takes a break. Anxiety lives in the past and the future, ruminating or worrying, but it cannot exist in the now. A few minutes of present awareness can be enough to restore calm.

Let It Go – A Gentle Reminder

This morning at Conimicut Point, I watched the winter sunrise, noticing the subtle changes in light on the water. Each wave, each cloud, each shadow became a meditation. The act of observing, waiting, and being patient is mindfulness in action.

Letting go doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as noticing the sunrise, breathing deeply, and watching the world unfold around you.

Send a Card – A Small Gesture, A Big Impact

Sometimes, all someone needs is a reminder that they’re seen and cared for. If you know someone going through a rough time, a small action can mean so much.

With Dooley Cards, you can send a physical card or an eCard directly to their inbox. Pair it with a calming image like “Conimicut Point Sunrise – Mike Dooley” and a few thoughtful words, and you’ve created a meaningful moment.

A card is more than an image—it’s a visual pause, a mindful moment of connection, and a gentle reminder: I’m thinking of you. You matter. Whether for stress, anxiety, or just encouragement, a card can make a surprising difference.
